1968 Islander Bahama for sale

This boat is the first ever fiberglas sail boat made. Because, at that time, they did not know how thin fiberglas could be made, they really used a lot in making this model. Therefore, it is one of the toughest boats ever made. Many people figure that these models still have another good 40 years in them because of their heavy duty construction.

Because they were made using a wooden form, the boat has a wooden slat look to it.

I have sailed with this boat is some rough weather and it handles very well. It also sails well in the slightest breeze. Three of this same model boat have traveled around the world.

This boat is equipped with a relatively new VHF radio. A full cabin with dining table, bench seats, a kitchen with a sink and running water, a cool box with automatic drain, kitchen counter top, drawers and storage under the sink, storage racks above the work area. There is a sleeping area for two people in the forward vee berth with reading lamps. There is a porta potty built in. The dining table folds down to make another bed and on the other side is another bed for a total of 4 sleeping places. The whole floor in the cabin is covered with no slip mats - which are really useful in rougher waters.

There is an adjustable motor mount on the stern wich takes a good sized motor. There is also an engine compartment meant for an outboard motor. Remote steering and throttle controls are also included. (Motor is not included).

There is a brand new oversized 20lb anchor with lots of rope. The boat has hundreds of feet of extra rope in storage compartments.

The sails are in great condition - like new. All sail covers are included and there is an extra spinnaker sail, which was never used.

There is TONS of storage space. There are compartments under each the sleeping cushions in the bow. There is storage under the kitchen sink. Under each of the seats by the table are storage compartments. Under the mattress in the cabin is even more storage. And under the stern area is a huge full width storage area about 7ft by 7ft by 2.5ft high. The bilge pump is automatic and works very well.

In the stern is a large storage compartment for the motor, gas tanks, battery and other accessories.

Extras include: Life vests, swim ladder, oar, extra ropes, fire extinguisher, flare gun, first aid kit, boat hook, spare parts and accessories.

Located in Jamaica Bay, New York.
